Worcester Local First Draws More Than 150 To 2008-2009 Business Directory Kick-off Party PDF Print E-mail

Worcester Local First drew more than 150 businesses to our 2008-2009 Business Directory Kick-Off Party on February 20 at The Beechwood Hotel & Conference Center. During the Party, we announced details of our first-ever Directory, of which 30,000 copies will be published and distributed on or around July 1, 2008 to WLF members and sponsors. Since the announcement, new orders for Directory ads as well as WLF memberships and sponsorships have been flowing in at a steady rate. In addition, Rod Lee has written an excellent profile of Worcester Local First's Directory Party for "Biz Buzz" in the Telegram & Gazette. Click here for the article, in PDF format.

The 2008-2009 Directory will contain listings information on at least 200 Worcester Local First Founding Sponsors and Founding Members, paid ads for many of these sponsors and members, and lots of information about the growing, international Local First phenomenon, which in only five years has spread to more than 60 communities across the U.S. and Canada. The ad deadline is June 13, 2008. For ad rates and specifications,
contact Steven Jones-D'Agostino at 508-791-0459 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

City Manager Mike O'Brien made news when he addressed our Business Directory Kick-Off Party. He told attendees that Worcester needs a single property-tax rate (click here for more). Worcester Local First has not yet taken a position on this controversial issue. Mayor Konnie Lukes also addressed our gathering. As a token of appreciation, we have granted Honorary Memberships (Value: $50 each per year) to the City Manager's Office and the Mayor's Office.

The winners of the Door Prizes at our Business Directory Kick-off Party are as follows:

  • Michael Hayes of Greenberg, Rosenblatt, Kull & Bitsoli, P.C.: Overnight stay and brunch for two at The Beechwood Hotel & Conference Center. Value: $350.
  • Janice Phaneuf of Annie's Book Stop: 30-second commercial on one episode of The Energy Freedom Fighters on WCRN/830 AM, which is broadcast and webcast four times per weekend. Value: $250.
  • John Delaney of E.L. Harvey & Sons Inc.: Percy's TV & Appliance gift certificate. Value $100.
  • William Coleman III of the UMass Extenion Central Region Nutrition Education Program: C.C. Lowell gift certificate. Value: $100

Greenberg, Rosenblatt, Kull & Bitsoli, P.C. is a Founding Sponsor and Annie's Book Stop is a Founding Member of Worcester Local First.
