Nearly three dozen Worcester Local First members among Worcester Magazine's 2009 Best of Worcester Armsby Abbey named the most among all businesses honored
Worcester, MA - April 28, 2009 - Readers of Worcester Magazine, a Founding Sponsor of Worcester Local First, have chosen nearly three dozen Local First members for WoMag's 2009 Best of Worcester. All of the winners and runners-up in more than 100 categories are listed in the April 23 issue of WoMag. Armsby Abbey, a Worcester Local First member, received the most Best of Worcester awards:" 13. As WoMag states in itsawards introduction: "We, of course, must make special note of Armsby Abbey, which won a remarkable -- and, by our memory, record setting -- 13 categories, including individual staff awards, in addition to capturing several key runners-up slots. The Abbey's achievement is all the greater for having been open less than a year, but we shouldn't be surprised. The beer haven-cum-slow food paradise has quickly developed one of the most singularly dedicated followings we've seen locally; it's also one of the few Worcester bars/restaurants bringing in press and visitors from across New England, the country and, in a few cases, the globe. (Of course, a note on every receipt asking customers to vote doesn't hurt)." Multiple Best of Worcester awards go to two Founding Members of Worcester Local First: 6, to Niche Hospitality Group, which owns and operates Block Five Bistro Bar, Bocado Tapas Wine Bar and Mezcal Tequila Cantina; and 2, to Framed in Tatnuck, whose owner, Cliff Wilson, co-chairs Worcester Local First. Picking up one runner-up mention is C.C. Lowell, whose owner, Bill Cavanagh, also co-chairs Worcester Local First.
